In an earlier post I talked about direct sales and their role in helping mothers contribute to their family finances. Go check it out if you’re a bit leary of the whole selling thing then hop on back here to learn all about the company LuLaRoe! I will be interviewing sales reps from many companies over the coming weeks, so keep on checking back to that original post where I will have a link for each company that has been represented so far. Today I am interviewing myself 😉
So what is LuLaRoe?
LuLaRoe is a company started by DeAnne, who was a single mom of 7 desperately trying to find a way to stay home with her kids. She met up with some dress wholesalers and started liquidating their end of season dresses in home based parties. A few years later, with the help fo her new husband Mark, she began her own clothing line. LuLaRoe has pieces for men, women and children. Their line includes tops, dresses, skirts, and their famous buttery soft leggings. You can read more about her personal story here.
LuLaRoe sizes range from 2T-14 in kids, XXS-3XL in Women’s and M-3XL in Men’s. With several different styles available there is sure to be a fit to flatter any body type. LuLaRoe fabrics are super comfortable and incredibly unique. Each fabric design is only turned into 5000 different individual products. There are new designs released daily and every consultant has a different inventory. LuLaRoe also started a 2 year collaboration with Disney in July of 2017, releasing new designs frequently.
What is the Pricing?
Each LuLaRoe retailer is an independent business owner that sets their own prices. LuLaRoe has a minimum advertised price (MAP) for each item, but each retailer determines their own sell price. Suggested retail prices range from $23 for kids adn tween leggings to $100 for jean jackets.
Where/How Can I Purchase?
Since LuLaRoe does not have a set catalog and every retailer carries a different inventory there is no online link for shopping. You have to purchase directly from a retailer. Retailers sell both online and in home parties. You can check out my VIP group on Facebook to purchase from me. If you are within 2 hours of Winder, GA I would love to bring my inventory to your home for your friends to purchase as well! I am also willing to drive much further if I can get multiple parties scheduled during the time I am there. If you are outside my area and want to find a consultant who is local to you check out the retailer page on the LuLaRoe website.
What if I Want to Sell LuLaRoe?
It’s pretty easy to get started as a retailer in LuLaRoe. First you need to find yourself a sponsor. Ask around and talk to different retailers that you have shopped with. See who you click with. There are TONS of great retailers out there that you can work with. If you want to chat with me about the opportunity please feel free to message me on my business page. I would love to talk details with you!
Here’s a brief overview: To get started you have to fill out some paperwork including info on you as well as info on how you want to receive your payments. You also have to read and agree to the Policies and Procedures documents. Once you do that you are considered “In the Queue”, which is the waitlist to be onboarded as a retailer. The current wait is approximately 6-8 weeks. During this time you will be invited to take part in weekly Queue Club webinars that help you get ready to start your business. When you hit the top of the list you will get a call from LuLaRoe home offices inviting you to purchase your initial inventory. If you change your mind at any time during the wait simply tell them you are no longer interested. No commitment has been made until AFTER you purchase that initial inventory. LuLaRoe offers several different initial inventory onboarding packages. The LuLaRoe initial start-up cost ranges from ~$5000-10,000 depending on which package you choose.
As an independent retailer you ultimately choose what your commission rate is based on what you decide to charge your customer for the products. Retailers purchase wholesale from LuLaRoe, then sell at retail. The average income per piece is roughly 50-60%. This fluctuates based on what styles you choose to carry and where you set your prices. Retailers are required to sell only one piece a month to remain active! This means when life happens adn you have to step back a bit it’s ok. You can jump right back in when you’re ready.
In addition to your income from sales you also have the opportunity to build a team. As a team leader you will receive a bonus check based on the sales of the retailers who are under you. Those percentages are based on your own sales levels as well as the number of people you have under you.
What if I Don’t Know How to Run a Business?
Don’t worry! I didn’t have a clue either when I first started out either. LuLaRoe is AWESOME at training you! As I previously mentioned they have weekly calls for the Queue Club members helping you prepare. There is also a weekly updates from home office call and a training call for retailers as well as a weekly training call for leaders. In addition to these webinars LuLaRoe Home Office also hosts frequent in person trainings throughout the country all year long. They also have their annual convention in California in July each year with 2 solid days of training. On top of that many individual leaders have local trainings for the consultants who are near them.
Why Did I Become a Retailer?
Ultimately the decision to join any company is based on your why and how it aligns to the company’s purpose. My why in centered in my journey of self discovery. You can read more about that in my muchness post. The short version is that I had completely lost myself as a person, and desperately needed to change my life. I was drowning in my roles as a wife and mother and needed something that was mine. I chose LuLaRoe over other companies because fashion is a huge part of me regaining my identity. I also love their mission statement that I posted above. Finally what sealed the deal was the income potential. As I watched my cousin and a few friends quit their jobs, retire their husband’s, build new homes, and so much more I knew that this was the business for me. Ultimately these little ducks of mine are my why. I want to give them education, sports, vacations, a comfortable home, and so much more!
